This is a book of rather special reminiscences written by James (Jim) Lester, a former Nine Elms main-line fireman. Jim started his career at Nine Elms in the late 1950s before moving on the Feltam and then returning to Nine Elms.

Aside from some wonderful stories of working trains of all types and in all conditions, Jim was also the fireman on the funeral train for Sir Winston churchill, which he describes in a most moving manner.
